Frequently Asked Questions
| Q. | Can I buy a system for my friend or family member's house? |
| A. | Rebates are only valid for installation on properties owned by eligible employees. |
| Q. | I own multiple properties where I would like to install solar, how many systems can I purchase? |
| A. | Each employee is eligible for one rebated system per address under the Employee Solar Program. If you would like to install a system on more than one address please contact us at employee.solar@sunpowercorp.com. |
| Q. | Do I have to live in the home? Can I install on a rental property that I own? |
| A. | As long as you are the owner of the property, the property is eligible for the Employee Solar Program rebate. Please note that you are only eligible for one system rebate per address. |
| Q. | I am currently a renter, can I still purchase a system? |
| A. | Permitting and liability issues typically prevent tenant solar installations. |
| Q. | I own a condo/townhouse/multi-family residence, am I eligible? |
| A. | You might be. You will need to own the roof and have your own electric meter. It is best to check with your homeowners association (HOA) or building jurisdiction to get this information. |
| Q. | What if I sell my house during system installation, can I still get the rebate? |
| A. | You will be eligible for the rebate if the system is completed and the final invoice is issued to you. |
| Q. | What if I leave the company before my system is installed? |
| A. | You must be an employee in good standing at the time of rebate submittal (after installation) to receive the Employee Solar Program rebate. |
| Q. | How long will it take for someone to contact me once I submit the inquiry form? |
| A. | A program representative will contact you within two business days to go through a quick solar pre-qualification. Once referred to a participating SunPower dealer, the dealer will contact you within five business days. |
| Q. | Will I need to apply for any permits in order to install a solar system? |
| A. | Your SunPower dealer will handle all permitting issues related to installing a solar system on your property. |
| Q. | If I install a system that can fully offset my electricity bill, can I cancel my service with the electric company? |
| A. | No, your SunPower system works in conjunction with your existing electric service (grid-connected system). For example, during a blackout your system will not generate nor provide electricity, a common misconception of grid-connected solar systems. |
| Q. | What if I want to install a system that is larger than 5000 watts (5kW)? |
| A. | You are free to purchase a system larger than 5kW, but you will only receive rebates up to the 5kW DC size limit. |
| Q. | How are SunPower systems priced, should I expect a standard system price? |
| A. | Installed system pricing is highly site specific. Some of the factors that determine installed system price include:
Each Dealer will quote systems for the Employee Solar Program according to their normal pricing schedule. The rebate will be provided after the dealer has received payment for the system to lower the overall cost. The pricing advantage to participants in the Employee Solar Program is in the form of a rebate, not through lower upfront pricing. |
| Q. | Can I purchase a SunPower system and install it myself? |
| A. | Because of liability and insurance issues, rebates are only valid for SunPower systems installed by an approved Dealer. All SunPower residential systems in the US are sold as fully installed systems. |
| Q. | What are the state/local incentives and tax credits for solar? |
| A. | Your local SunPower Dealer will provide you with information regarding incentives on the local and state level as well as tax credits you may be eligible for through a system installation. |
| Q. | Do I have to communicate anything to the dealer to receive my rebate? |
| A. | Prior to contact, Dealers are notified that you are planning to purchase a system under the Employee Solar Program. |
| Q. | How long does it take to receive my rebate? When do I submit my rebate? |
| A. | Rebates are typically received within 6-8 weeks of submitting your rebate claim form. Rebate claim forms are submitted upon receipt of final invoice from the SunPower Dealer. |
| Q. | If I qualify for more than one SunPower rebate or offer can I apply for them all? |
| A. | This program cannot be combined with other SunPower offers or discounts. No adjustments on previous purchases. SunPower Corporation, reserves the right to alter or discontinue the Promotion at any time without notice. Participation in the Program constitutes acceptance of the Terms and Conditions. |
| Q. | Am I taxed on the Employee Solar Program rebate? |
| A. | The Employee Solar Program rebate will not be taxed by SunPower. Please consult your tax advisor on specific issues related to your tax situation. |
| Q. | How long does the entire process take from start to finish? |
| A. | From start to finish, the solar process can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. Much of this time is spent on waiting for state incentives and permitting to be approved. Our Dealers are expertly trained at navigating the administration process to minimize the amount of delays. |
